The “Consorzio di tutela del Custoza” (The Consortium for the Protection of Custoza wine) was founded in 1972. It currently includes around 70 wineries and 500 winemakers, which guarantee the Consortium a representativeness of more than 90% of the total production which is equal to about 12 million bottles annually, sold mainly in the Italian and German markets.
The vineyards of the denominated area, extend over about 1400 total hectares, distributed on the hills located between the city of Verona and Lake Garda and are mainly based on the autochthonous grapes varieties Garganega, Trebbianello and Bianca Fernanda.
Environmental sustainability is among the aims of the Consortium, which has guided the winemakers in the implementation of integrated vineyard defence for over twenty years with a technical viticulture commission and weekly bulletins in order to reduce interventions to a minimum.
